Private Driver or Scooter: Which Option Is Better?
Renting a scooter has become one of the most popular ways to explore Bali. It offers flexibility, gives you complete control over your schedule, and is usually the most affordable transportation option. For experienced riders who are already comfortable driving in Bali, renting a scooter can be a practical choice for exploring nearby destinations.
However, Bali has changed considerably over the past few years. Tourist numbers continue to grow, and popular destinations such as Ubud now experience significantly heavier traffic than many visitors expect. Roads can become congested throughout the day, particularly around major attractions, restaurants, and town centres.
In addition to busy traffic, many roads around Ubud are relatively narrow, with limited parking and frequent interactions between cars, motorcycles, delivery vehicles, and pedestrians. Visitors who are unfamiliar with local driving conditions may find these situations more challenging than they anticipated.
This doesn't mean renting a scooter is the wrong decision. Many travelers enjoy the freedom it provides and have wonderful experiences riding throughout Bali. The most important thing is to choose the transportation option that matches your experience, confidence, and travel expectations.
